The first two episodes of the next generation of digimon aired in North America on Saturday August 19. The theory behind this show is somewhat different than the original digimon. The original digidestined are older now, Tai, Izzy and Sora are in high school, Matt's trying to become a rockstar, Mimi moved to New York, Joe's studying to become a doctor and Kari and T.K are in seventh grade. T.K and Kari meet Davis, Yolei and Cody, kids who are obviously going to become the next digidestined children and who get new digivices. Tai's digivice goes off and so he goes to the digiworld where he discovers Augumon being attacked and unable to digivolve. Even with Tai he still can't digivolve so they run and hide. Augumon tells him that there is a new enemy who calls himself the Digimon Emperor, and who has a 'black digivice' that doesn't allow Augumon or the others to digivolve. The evil Digimon Emperor, who is a human, uses black rings to control digimon and turn them evil, remind you of black gears? I don't really want to turn this into an episode summary so I'll be brief and add on more information as I get it. Davis' digimon is Veemon, Yolie's is Hawkmon and Cody's is Armadillomon. They digivolve to Flamedramon, Halsemon and Digmon. They were each found when one of the new kids lifted a digiegg from the ground, where no one else could. Veemon's egg had the courage symbol on it, Hawkmon had the symbol of Love and Armadillomon had Knowledge. With the new digivices the three new digimon can digivolve, or armour digivolve which is what it is called when they do it, but they are somehow related to Augumon, Biomon and Tentomon because they use the courage, love and knowledge symbols. The other kids have the same digimon but they can't digivolve so they (the digimon) and the original kids will only be able to give the new ones advice. Also, now the gate between the real world and the digital world seems to open on a regular basis, so the kids spend the day in the digiworld and go back at night. The three new digimon come back to the real world with the kids but the old ones stay. They'll be okay though because the evil Digimon Emperor doesn't come out at night. This whole idea of being able to go back home whenever they want to makes the plot nearly completly different, now the Digidestined are fighting voluntarily, to save the digimon, whereas before they were fighting to get home. This means that they have perhaps less to fight for, but it also shows that since they are willing to fight for it rather than run home, they are maybe braver than the original kids. Of course, no one in season 2 really seems to understand their digimon like the ones in 01 did, and the kids in 01 did go back voluntarily to fight. Can you tell whose side I'm on? (*cough*season 1*cough*)
T.K. and Kari found the digieggs of Hope and Light and with them Patamon and Gatomon can armour digivolve into Pegasismon and Nefertimon.
The kids discover that the Digimon Emperor uses tall black obelisks, known as black spires, to control the regions of the digiworld where he isn't. Not all of the digiworld has these spires but he is rapidly building more for the areas he doesn't control. The new digimon destroy a control spire and, just like that, the old digimon are able to digivolve so the kids decide that they will destroy all the control spires, thus ridding the land of the Digimon Emperor's influence.
Augumon got kidnapped and turned evil by the Digimon Emperor, who turns out to be boy genius Ken Ishijoji, and the kids went to rescue him. Davis found the Digiegg of Friendship so now he has friendship as well and it enables Veemon to digivolve one step further to Raidramon. The Digimon Emperor ran away from home and now is living in digiworld. He found that the dark rings could only control champion or lower digimon so he invented the black spiral, three black rings put together. After a while Yolei gets the digiegg of Sincerity and Hawkmon digivolves to Shurimon, then Cody gets Reliability and Armadillomon digivolves to Submarimon.
Ken captured Agumon with the dark spiral and turned him evil, but Tai and the others eventually rescued Agumon. Ken then created a huge digimon using parts of others, and tried to destroy the Digidestened with it. Wormon, Ken's slave digimon, finally decided to help the Digidestined, and Veemon was able to digivolve again into Golden Magnamon and was able to destroy Ken's creation, Chimeramon. Ken realised that what he was doing was actually hurting digimon, and stopped being the Digimon emperor, at the cost of Wormon's life. He is a Digidestined, with, ironically, the crest of Kindness. Now that his rule is over, the new digimon are able to really digivolve, not armour digivolve, and they become Veemon to Xveemon (sp?) Hawkmon to Aquilamon (sp?) and Armadillomon to Anklyomon. Wormon is reborn, and eventually digivolves to Stingmon.
Now with Ken being good, we need a new evil, and it comes in the form of Arukennimon and Mummymon, who are making digimon from control spires and trying to take over the Digital World, and destroy the Digidestined. After being beaten a million times Arukennimon uses a hundred control spires to make a digimon and makes Blackwargreymon, who the kids are unable to destroy, or even injure. He is trying to destroy the destiny stones, stones that if destroyed will cause the Digital World to be destroyed. He is trying to destroy them so he can find an opponent who is worthy of fighting him. Wargreymon finally destroys all the destiny stones and Ozulongmon (sp?) appears, but will not fight Wargreymon. He makes sure that the Digital World isn't destroyed.
The Digimon have descovered how to DNA digivolve, which happens when two digimon mix thier DNA together and become one. Xveemon and Stingmon become Pailldramon, Gatomon and Aquilamon digivolve to become Sylphimon, and Angemon and Anklyomon digivolve to become Shakkoumon. Wargreymon is now running around on the loose looking for someone worthy to fight.
Children have been disappearing, and a mysterious man, Mr. Oikawa, was talking to TK's mom about the Digiworld, and said the same thing that happened three years ago will happen again. It turns out that Ken was taken by this man when he first entered teh Digiworld and a dark spore was put in him, turning him evil. The kidnapped children return, but they are different, smarter and quieter. Owikawa is controlling Arukennimon and Mummymon, getting them to do all his dirty work. Digimon have started to appear all ovwr the world, just like 5 years ago, and so the Digidestined decide to go and send them all back through digiports. Gennai, a young Genni comes, and gives them some of Ozulongmon's power, allowing the original Digidestined digimon to digivolve to their highest level. It also allows Pailldramon to digivolve to Empirialdramon, an encredibly stong Digimon. So, off they go to return the Digimon, leaving Tokyo unguarded. All around the workd they find other Digidestined with Digimon partners ready to help them. When they finish thier "World Tour" they return to find Wargreymon ready to destroy everything.
Agumon warp digivolves to face him Wargreymon to Blackwargreymon (finally! I'd been shouting at the TV for half the season before they finally got their act together and figured that out). With the help of Empirialdramon B.Wargreymon is defeated, and decides not to fight anymore. I think I must have missed a few episodes in between here, because the next thing I knew they were fighting some digivolved form of Myotismon, Malomyotismon or something. He's too strong though, and all the Digidestined from around the workd come to the Digiworld and the light from their Digivices helps to destract Malomyotismon. The children who had black spores inplanted in them realise that they'd given up on their dreams, but they get them back, and Malomyotismon is destroyed by, I assume, all the happy sentiment. The light from the Digivices allows Empirialdramon to destroy all the evil left over from Metalmyotismon. Cody finds Owikawa dying (he is human) and Owikawa uses the last of his energy to resore the Digital World to it's former beauty.
25 years later the Digidestined are all married and have kids. The whole world knows about Digimon and the Digital World and everyone has a Digimon Partner. Tai+Agumon become Diplomates, Matt+Gabumon become astronauts, and make it to Mars, strange since they were going to the Moon. Sora and Bio become fashion designers, Joe becomes a Digimon doctor, Mimi becomes cooking show host, the only time she takes off her hat. Izzy becomes a computer whiz, and studies the relationship between the real world and the Digital world, Kari becomes a Kindergarten teacher, TK a journalist, Yolie and Ken get married Yolei becomes a housewife and Ken a detective. Cody becomes a attourney and Davis becomes a noodle seller.
